Teachers need data to inform their assessments of learners' progress and to identify their best next steps;
Students need to be engaged in their own learning and motivated by their progress;
Parents need insight into their child’s progress and how to support their child, especially when distance learning;
School Leaders need to know that effective teaching and learning is happening
SchoolTalk enables all teachers to consistently adopt the effective teaching practices codified in the app as evidenced by teacher voice: "SchoolTalk allows us to easily track progress individually, across class groups, year levels, and subject areas. Data is added directly into SchoolTalk as it happens, so we no longer need to keep spreadsheets, enter data in multiple platforms, or try to do a 'best fit' Overall Teacher Judgement”. SchoolTalk allows students to self assess and gives them feedback on their own progress and learning direction - enhancing engagement and agency as evidenced by student voice: "It's got everything I need to learn. If you finish your work early you can go straight onto to the next step." Parents are positive especially when students are at home: "Having everything loaded onto SchoolTalk makes picking and choosing activities for the day/week really easy".
Teachers are changing their practice because of SchoolTalk which helps them collect evidence of progress to underpin their assessment of progress and allows them to differentiate learning design. Learners cannot be left behind as every learner's work is transparently available. During Covid lock-downs, many of our students made excellent progress as learning was continuous. We are seeing school leaders use the data from SchoolTalk to identify opportunities for investing in and improving teaching practice and strengthening home school partnerships.
