We want to show teachers the possibilities of games in the classroom.
We want to break the stigma surrounding youth gaming and show wonderful examples of how to use games in the classroom.
We are an event organizer that can easily bring together hundreds of teachers to learn from each other. We emphasize peer learning. Teachers showing other teachers what they are doing in the classroom around gaming and gamification. Such practical examples always work best because they are credible testimonials that show that you can effectively achieve your learning goals with games.
We launched the event one month ago. In only one month we convinced almost 40 start-ups, game developers, non profit organisations, academics, ... that have a serious game or use gamification to present what they're doing.
Add 20 teachers who will lead a 2.5 hour hands-on workshop for max 20 people, to experience the game and create a lesson plan. Add about 20 short spotlight sessions given by the partners who are exhibiting.
In the next 2-3 years we're going to organize this event again elsewhere in Flanders, because it's clear the momentum is here now. We now have almost 200 teachers who subscribed for the event. We also want to start a game lab where teachers can experience the games themselves, together with their pupils and students. We will develop lesson plans for each game.
Just visit www.omg.vlaanderen and subscribe for the event.
