Lab On a Bike Program

place India

The Lab on a Bike (LoB) program is wherein an Agastya instructor uses Lab in a Box (LIB) to conduct hands-on science classes in schools.

To scale up its reach and impact, Agastya initiated the Lab in a Box (LIB) program in the year 2009. The LIB program has proved to be a great resource for government school teachers to execute hands-on science activities on a regular basis.

“The lesson we derive out of [the Agastya] experience is that innovative and student friendly solutions are needed to enable scientific learning in youth, especially those in rural and remote regions.

About the innovation

The Lab on a Bike aims at making hands-on education increasingly accessible in rural areas.

What we do?

Each LOB travels to remote schools with hands-on science models covering topics in Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Math for grades five through ten. The program comprises of 10 boxes filled with experiments covering different concepts from Physics, Chemistry and Biology. The LIB program has proved to be a great resource for government school teachers to execute hands-on science activities on a regular basis. The Lab on a Bike (LoB) program is a variation of the LIB program wherein an Agastya instructor uses the LIB to conduct hands-on science classes in the schools. The instructor travels to different schools each day along with an LIB which fits onto the side of his bike. On completion of visiting all the pre-defined schools, he starts his next cycle with the second box and so on.
