Here at Komodo Wellbeing, we are working towards a mission we are honoured to have. Our goal is to positively impact the lives of students and to set the standard of school-wide wellbeing around the world. Komodo aims to guide schools and students to understand areas of strength and difficulty, and to facilitate up-skilling and positive changes for the long-term.

About the innovation

Why did you create this innovation?

Komodo Wellbeing originally began as Komodo Monitr, a sports management and athlete wellbeing platform. Co-founders, Jack Wood and Chris Bacon, developed the platform while studying. As the platform launched in New Zealand, it quickly became apparent that schools were searching for a comprehensive wellbeing solution that would shape and drive their pastoral care processes.

What does your innovation look like in practice?

Schools and education facilities have become a focus for early intervention and prevention strategies when it comes to mental health and wellbeing. Pastoral care is a huge undertaking for staff and very few schools have the capacity to facilitate consistent personal check-ins with every single student. Komodo Wellbeing's intelligent check-in system and data-driven insights ensure that staff make positive and effective interventions that are backed by real-time data.

Our ultimate aim is to ensure that a school is a place in which every student flourishes. Komodo is more than just a platform or software. We aim to add value to our schools in everything we do, whether it be the code we write, the customer support we provide or the psychology we embed within our approach, it all goes toward impacting the lives of students and staff.

How has it been spreading?

Originally launched across New Zealand and Australia, Komodo is now used in schools in 22 countries around the world. In the past 12 months, Komodo has sent out over 467,000 wellbeing surveys globally across 22 countries.

Our 2022 annual product impact report counted 400 student-led check-ins in 12 months. In 2023, we have had over 2,800 students use this function. This increase is a brilliant indication of the growth of Komodo into more schools across the globe and students using their voice, taking charge of their wellbeing and using Komodo to expand their wellbeing practices.

Implementation steps

Test Komodo is right for your school by running a free 30-day trial or a Komodo Pilot.
We offer all schools the opportunity to try Komodo free for 30-days, this trial is a great way for schools to explore everything that Komodo has to offer. If you are interested in Komodo but aren't quite ready to roll it out school-wide our team will work with you to build a Komodo Pilot with your chosen year/grade levels.
Get set up on Komodo with product onboarding and survey building!
Once a school has signed up with Komodo we work through product onboarding, setting up your staff and student profiles and working with you to create your customised student surveys with our psychologist-created question library. We will work with all staff to explore the product features and explain how they work. All Komodo schools have a dedicated sales and customer support staff member to ensure the process runs smoothly.
Introducing Komodo to the school community & releasing the first survey!
The Komodo team will provide you with resources you can use to help introduce Komodo to students and parents in the school community. Once everyone is familiar and can access their profiles the first survey will be sent out on an agreed-upon date.
Time to review your data!
Once you've completed a month of surveying your customer support specialist will meet with you to review your student data and discuss how it can be interpreted and actioned. As a Komodo school you will have access to a library of wraparound support with psychologist-created resources for your classrooms and programs for staff to upskill in key areas of wellbeing.
