Millions of boys and girls are not going to school due to endemic poverty. UNESCO Reports that Nigeria has about 18.4million out of school children, that is about 3 times the size of Singapore. Many poorest families will like to send their children to school but cannot afford it and even the free government schools have levies they cannot afford. Our solution is working to provide education access
Our solution is providing access to quality education to children from the poorest households in Kuje community, Abuja Nigeria for N100/13Cents A-Day and using a Child Sponsorship model whereby members of the public adopt a child at $303 per year. For the N100/13cents A-Day fees, the students get books, uniform, meals, sanitary pads for girls and computer based education. It is easier to start school at KNOSK Charity School compared to government public schools that are said to be free.
We have been operating since 2019 and our evidence that this is working is that we have so far enrolled 156 students and witnessed zero drop out related to lack of funds to pay fees.
We also produce in-house workbooks for the school that depends on the approved government syllabus that makes learning easier for poorest children. Computers are used for our termly examination and we leverage termly project based learning and hackathon to ensure deep learning and action learning.
Our school has saved several girls in the community from being married off as child brides due to poverty and being out of school.
Our school has helped about 156 boys and girls stay in school instead of the streets.
Children who have never seen a computer before are now computer literate and learning how to code and do robotics.
We are now getting invitation from individuals to replicate our model in other parts of the country, but we are not yet ready for that, until 2025 after we build our first model school.
Our 2023/2025 Goals
To build our first KNOSK Charity School to cater for 400 students and it will also have 300 bed hostel. The school will also have an innovation lab, STEM Studio, Vocational Skills Center, Library, Clinic, Sports and Teachers Residence.
We are already getting request to come and replicate our model in other communities around Nigeria. We are excited about this but in our strategic plan, we are scheduling to commence that in 2025 when we have completed building our first KNOSK School.
However, you can replicate our Workbooks model, hackathon and teaching models. Atleast one school has adopted our workbook model.
