Innovator Masterclasses at the HundrED 2020 Summit

The 2020 Innovation Summit program includes mini Masterclasses. These classes are designed by innovators for innovators to help our community deepen their impact and grow their work. It is targeted towards helping our innovators grow and learn new skills. This year, we will be focusing the discussions on three major themes: visibility, funding/partnerships, and networking.

We have just under a week to go before the HundrED 2020 Innovation Summit! Join us next week to explore 50+ breakout sessions and hear from innovators and education leaders from around the world!

If you haven’t yet, be sure to register for the HundrED Innovation Summit happening November 4-6th. In addition to the Main Program, there will be a variety of other live sessions available throughout the 3 days including: Masterclasses, Community-Led Side Events, and Icebreaker Networking Sessions. 

In this article, we discuss the Masterclass Sessions. These mini Masterclasses are designed by innovators for innovators to help our community deepen their impact and grow their work. It is targeted towards helping those working in the education sector learn new skills. This year, we will be focusing the discussions on three major themes: visibility, funding/partnerships, and networking. 

Each session includes a short introduction video that will be available on-demand under the Masterclass section of the event platform beginning next Monday. If after watching this video, you would like to share your own expertise and/or raise questions to the presenters, we invite you to join the live Masterclass discussions held November 4-6th. These discussions will be hosted by the HundrED Community at the times listed below. Registration is capped to 50 attendees so act quickly before spaces fill up! How to Stand Out From the Crowd

Our innovators are among the best of the best in the K12 education innovation community. One of the things that helps them stand out is how clearly they articulate and present their ideas. In this masterclass series, you will hear from Milla Kokko is the CEO and Co-Founder of HEI Schools, & Mehak Sharma, Communications Manager at Project FUEL. Both of these ladies have been successful in making their innovations be both nationally and globally recognized. 

This Masterclass series will discuss how you can stand out from the crowd. 

HEI Schools, founded in partnership with the University of Helsinki, has been very successful in taking Finnish early education worldwide. With schools in over 20 countries, Milla Kokko, the CEO, and Co-Founder of HEI Schools will teach you how you too can make your local expertise globally relevant. 

Statista, the top-rated global business data platform, predicts that by 2021, more than 3 billion people are expected to be on social media, with an estimated 153 minutes spent on social media platforms per day. It is up to us how we can use these minutes and not be used by them. 

In this session, Mehak Sharma, the Communications Manager for Project FUEL, will share insights on how institutions can build their social media presence online, with a special focus on Facebook and Instagram. She will share how Project FUEL has integrated technology into their pedagogy to make online interaction fun and accessible. She will also explore how, due to the dynamic nature of social media, education stakeholders can trace changing trends that affect students outside school. This inside view can further help you adapt and stay relevant in the long run.

Top Tips & Tricks to Get your Pitch Right!

  • Innovators: Sari Hurme-Mehtälä, CEO & Co-founder, Kide Science; Henry May, CEO & Co-founder, Coschool 

Raising funding and creating meaningful partnerships is one of the biggest challenges faced by education innovators worldwide. In this masterclass series, you will hear from Sari Hurme-Mehtälä, CEO & Co-founder, Kide Science (Finland) Henry May, CEO & Co-founder, Coschool (Colombia) who have both been successful in raising funding for their innovations and get the recognition they deserve to scale their work.

This masterclass will provide insights into their learnings, including effective funder outreach and the top tricks for getting your pitch right. 

Over the last year, Kide Science has been able to raise 1.8 million dollars, while expanding their work to Africa and Thailand. Since its launch in 2017, Kide Science has raised a total of 3.3 million Euros. In this video, Sari Hurme-Mehtälä, CEO & Co-founder of Kide Science will break down her learnings and give you her recommendations on how to reach out to funders.

Henry May is a former teacher with Teach First UK. He is also the founder of The Huracan Foundation, a football & education charity based in the UK. In this series, Henry will share 8 tips and tricks to getting your pitch right.

In this masterclass series, you will hear from Abi Nokes, CEO, InHive (UK) & Julie Clugage, Executive Director and Co-Founder, Team4Tech (USA) who have been successful in tapping into their networks & public-private partnerships for the benefit of their innovations. 

Abi is the CEO of inHive, a team of network-building specialists who work with organizations around the world to develop alumni networks that improve opportunities for young people. Abi has worked in the alumni network space for the last decade working with schools, youth organizations, NGOs, funders, and national volunteer programs across six continents. In this video, she and her team member Prerna Aswani will share ideas from their trusted methodology around low-cost network building that is being implemented by organizations in over 10 countries.

Julie Clugage is the Executive Director and Co-Founder of Team4Tech, a Silicon-Valley based nonprofit that works to close the skills gap for underserved learners through technology and training to build capacity for community-based education nonprofits around the world. In this session, Julie will bring her over 20 years of experience in the world of education, technology, and international development. She will unpack Team4Tech’s human-centered design approach to providing long-term support to local NGO partners. She will also share her experience in building trusted partnerships across the private sector and the education NGO sector, which results in measurable improvements in learner growth, learner engagement, staff productivity, and organizational sustainability and scale.
