In recent years, school violence has been occurring more and more frequently. It is saddening to have both parents beat teachers or students to beat the teacher who is teaching them. How to minimize this? Kindness is the answer. Children as well as teens can not learn kindness just by thinking or talking about it. They must understand and practice it every day. Habits shape our character.
This project is built on top of CASEL'S SEL framework. Kindness is not just by thinking or talking about it but through specific actions. They'll have the opportunity to see the joy of those who receive kindness from them. This project will be conducted within 5 weeks with a mission: to help children become kind. In the first week, global students involved in the project will discuss what kindness is and what kind of actions are considered kind. At the same time, they also devise their own action plans in the coming weeks to get the job done. In the next three weeks, students participating in the project will take good action in classrooms, families, communities. In the last week, students around the globe will participate in Skype-a-Thon Kindness to share the kind work they have done with their friends in other countries. Finally, each class in the project will organize a kind day at their school. On this occasion, the students will do charity work to help those around them.
I am happy that kindness has spread to students in many countries. The creativity in the project is that we helped more than 12,000 students around the globe get the kindness without having to move out of the classroom during the first year of the project. To date, the project has impacted more than 24,000 children globally.. Technology has helped us become a family with the same misson: to be kind. What I’m proud of is that the students who participate in the project get kindness through specific actions, not just speaking or thinking about it. During the time doing the project, I have a lot of interesting stories from my students as well as students around the world. Some of my students used to spend hours playing after school.
