Agile Shaala

place India + 2 more

In learning we trust

We are building a community of self-directed learners, who take up the ownership of their learning through practice of agile principles. The children are handheld in their learning journey through experiential activities. We work in a hybrid mode. Some children join in virtually for interactions, team projects and presentations while some choose to come to our physical learning centres.

True freedom is when one can choose what to learn, how to learn and when to learn. And such true freedom comes with responsibility.

About the innovation

Why did you create this innovation?

Our education system in India has turned into a highly stressful process which is curbing the natural curiosity to learn in children. Being a neuroscientist, I could understand the gap between how our brain learns to how we are taught in conventional schooling. Agile Shaala is an attempt to bridge this gap by training the children in 21st century skills and encouraging self-directed learning.

What does your innovation look like in practice?

Agile Shaala pedagogy relies of three pillars:
1. Learning management through Agile methodologies
2. Gamification of learning
3. Integrated holistic learning through phenomenon based experiential learning methods.
The pedagogy is child centric. Allows children to explore at their own pace with freedom to choose. The whole process is personalized to the child.
At Agile Shaala we conduct “phenomenon week” every month focussing on integrated project based learning. Children explore, learn and present their work. We also travel to explore art, history, culture and believe that travel helps us develop life skills.

How has it been spreading?

We started as a virtual community two years back. Now we have added couple of physical learning clusters in Bengaluru and Mysuru, India. The community is growing strong over time. Our vision is to have many such local clusters set up where children can come, explore, play, experience and grow as self-learners.

Our efforts have been noticed by one of the leading newspapers, The Indian Express, Edex, where two articles were written about our way of learning.

We were selected as one among the top three in India under "most innovative teaching" by Jagran Josh education awards, 2022

We were interviewed by Agile world Indie regarding how agile principles help in self directed learning .https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uuO3dOZN0hM&t=9s

If I want to try it, what should I do?

We are open to collaborations across the globe. We would be happy to help set up such learning clusters. Please contact Dr. Poornima V, +91 9731571960, Poornima.agile@gmail.com
