A daughter of refugees herself, Rudayna founded Thaki as a technology-based social enterprise that repurposes donated laptops and loads them with rich educational content and tools to support refugee, vulnerable children and youth in the Middle East. It is an offline solution for many who live in areas with limited or no internet connectivity.
Thaki’s model is an innovative green approach that creates socially responsible, public private partnerships that work towards addressing the educational crisis in the region.Thaki engages the private sector through donations of gently used e-devices, allowing it to take an active role in addressing one of the region’s most pressing issues and equipping teachers and children with future-focused skills.
How Thaki Works:
1-Collect Gently Used Electronics.
We collect gently used electronic devices from corporations & institutions.
2-Load Devices With Educational Content.
We have developed a bespoke software platform that integrates a variety of highly informative & interactive educational content.
3-Distribute To Educational Centers.
We then distribute the devices to education centers that work with refugee & vulnerable children.
4-Provide Support All The Way.
We provide tools & training resources to support teachers & learners with their learning journeys and to gain digital literacy.
The Thaki model serves as a bridge connecting under-equipped learners with the resources they need to build the skills and aptitudes vital for success in today’s global marketplace.
We reach those in need of devices through forging relationships with partner organizations in our target communities. In the past seven years we estimate that over 22,500 children who otherwise would not have the opportunity to build their digital skills, have learned on a Thaki device through our 70+ partner schools, community centers, NGOs and other organizations.
Replicable and scalable in a variety of settings, Thaki’s model involves stakeholders present in communities across the globe; those who have devices they no longer need, those who need devices, and those willing to connect the two.
