Aseinc, sponsored by Chevron, created Aula20 as an alternative for the demand of updated training for teachers working in urban and rural slums, where teaching standards are constantly reported as very poor. Since 2010, the ongoing program has reached 330+ schools from remote areas and has benefited 4,7K+ resilient teachers from 6 states, improving their pedagogical strategies.
The highest grade for Venezuelan schools is 20. Aula20 aims to raise student's levels and grades through a comprehensive teacher training program, improving didactics of math, language and IT. Aula20 is a long term initiative that includes ongoing teacher training, follow-up, tools, books and school activities during a 3 year period. Aseinc's facilitators identify and train most dedicated teachers to become "Aula20 School Promoters (SP)". Each school has one SP to guide and support teachers participating. Aula20 also strengthens school managers' capacities, develops youth leadership, fosters ecological awareness, offers Aseinc's "Aulas de Paz" program (to build a culture of peace and non-violence in vulnerable schools), and leads activities to empower communities. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Aula20, was adapted to offer virtual support to school promoters and teachers. A shorter version, the subprogram “Aula20 in Pills” offered intensive workshops to teachers from remote rural areas.
Aula20, -created and executed by Aseinc- has trained more than 4,7K teachers & facilitators, benefited 167.5K children and adolescents and has 689.4K indirect beneficiaries from 330 schools. To date, Aseinc has provided 762 training workshops, 7 national collaboratively meetings for teachers participating in the program, 51 forums including 85 forum-chats, 6 pedagogical discussion days, 18 days for school for parents and 4 days dedicated for forums for young people. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Aseinc created and delivered 39,00 Aula20 workbooks and more than a thousand electronic flyers, providing technological incentives, pedagogical and a didactic kits for teachers. Since March 2020, more than 5,200 accompaniments have been offered via WhatsApp, text messages and phone calls.
