First, we must all assume responsibility in not trusting the science associated with the effect of climate change. Instead we placed our fate in self-serving autocratic leaders downplaying the pandemic, turning their backs on scientific evidence, spreading false information, and failing to take basic measures to protect the health and lives of the public. When disaster strikes, take cover.

About the innovation

Why did you create this innovation?

During Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans, a famous legal case took place because the entire resting home staff evacuated, leaving behind, bed ridden, disabled seniors to their fate, all expired. We all, have to recognize these intensified storms caused by climate change are more destructive than anything witnessed in modern history. People, need a safety device handy and ready to use.

What does your innovation look like in practice?

We are part of a collaboration of industries seeking solutions in the prevention of death and injury of life in an ever-changing environment. Most companies view their employees now as essential personnel and just because a storm appears they will not close their businesses. The average home or business normally have maybe a first-aid kit, protective gloves, eye-goggles and a eye-wash station but nothing to address the disaster unfolding before their eyes. They hear, the early warnings systems and see the drones flying away as their unprepared home or business braces for the impact of the pending force of nature. While we have benefited greatly from early warning devices, we need to add solutions to help the individual caught in the disaster. Then, the social realities of inequity and patterns of vulnerability of the disabled and those low-income or poverty communities is what our product addresses, having a affordable safety device nearby. The Take Cover is an UL certified product.

How has it been spreading?

We are a new start-up business seeking funding in every aspect of building and growing our business. Our focus has been the development and establishment of our product because no such funding was available doing this process. The Take Cover is a finished product and ready for launching, our goals now include establishing our website to assist building our brand and target markets, forming partnership to a assist with mentorship of personnel, developing distribution channels for expansion into other cultural markets. We want to help communities become more climate-resilient and safer to achieve their aim of reducing vulnerability.

If I want to try it, what should I do?

The amazing simplicity of the Take Cover is that it deploys from a simple padded square to a T-shaped
configuration providing almost complete body coverage. Most of our present day disasters are
water-related but our product is just unfolding it placing your hands and feet in the web strap and pulling down on the hood straps while assuming a good defensive position. http://www.takecoverpfd.com

Place the device on your back with hood and hold on to hand straps 5. Assume defensive posture based upon situation Key Points: Every emergency situation is different, depending on your location: Earthquakes: under desks with TC Vehicles: flash floods; window down or tornadoes: enclose Home or businesses: use of basement or closet, bathtubs with TC
Defensive posture using the Take Cover
Note: Disaster or emergency situations are ever-changing. Keep in mind, no one wakes up wishing to be in a disaster. The Take Cover in intent is having a safety device stored near when normally you have none. Most hurricanes or tornadoes produce winds with flying debris sometime over 150 miles per hours and also developing hail the size or golf balls or larger. Vehicle deaths increase with windows up and vehicles loses power, with windows down climb out with Take Cover.
Risk Assessment
When most disasters strike your window of escape or moving has closed and it may be safer in your present location. Most users regardless if at home or on vacation should be aware of hazards associated with their locations or regions: hurricanes, tsunamis, flash floods, tornadoes. Conduct a risk assessment during the situation helps the user to determine if the device will be more useful open or close. Other uses include being used a stretcher to assist wounded, as a sitting or sleeping pad.
Public knowledge
In most disasters it is announced that all emergency services will stop prior to the start of the disaster and that it can be more than 48 hours or more before first responders can provide support and assistance. Compared to a life-preserver and your entire body being submerged the Take Cover will allow the user to float on top which also helps preserves body temperature and reduces the attraction of shark or other water creatures.
