Regional schools compete with mine land projects

Eight regional high schools competed Thursday at the University of Pikeville in the Entrepreneurial Coal Lands Redevelopment Program Regional Challenge, where they presented projects that they had created based on redeveloping abandoned mine lands. The schools that competed include Betsy Layne High School, Jenkins High School, Floyd County Central High School, Phelps High School, Perry County Central High School, Hazard High School, Leslie County High School and The Craft Academy. For the overall team awards, The Craft Academy won first place (winning $5,000), Phelps High School won second place ($3,750) and Hazard High School won third place ($2,000).
